Idol Factory

Dave and I have been listening to this amazing series lately, by C.J. Mahaney, called Idol Factory. He is talking about how our hearts are prone to make and worship idols. We can make an idol out of anything that takes the place of God. It is really good; I highly recommend it. God is revealing the idols in my own heart. On the surface, I can make an idol out of food, exercise, health and nutrition, and managing my home. But it runs so much deeper than that. God is also revealing to me the idol of fear of man. I care so much more about what other people think than anything else. And the idol of perfection. I strive to be perfect, to get it all right, by my own power, for my own glory. I want to be seen as good and righteous. God is showing me that I am trampling His grace and stealing His glory. It is not about me, my striving, my working. I am trying to be my own Savior, my own hero. Jesus said no one is good but the Father alone. It is all about him. I cheapen His grace when I think there's anything I can add to draw myself near to Him.
