I am reading a ridiculous amount of books right now. I already had a bunch I had started, then I got my Kindle with all of the free downloads, and I recently ordered a bunch of books from Sovereign grace ministries because they were having a big sale. So I'm overloaded with books that I've started. They are strewn around the house and I just pick up whichever one happens to be around when I have a minute and start reading. Not the best for retention of anything, I'm sure. So I'm going to try to post some insights I am gleaning, so I can keep track of the thoughts I'm having.

So, in Life Management for Women, by Elizabeth George, she was talking about managing our bodies. She says, "So, my friend, instead of having a passion for food, pleasure, laziness, self-indulgence, and the things of this world (1 John 2:15), let's seek to walk by the Spirit and have a passion for wanting what God wants for our lives more than what we want. We aren't meant to live as we please. We're not meant to have what we want. And we don't have the right to live our lives any way we choose. Why? Because, as we've been learning, we are not our own but we are bought with a price. Therefore, as God's woman, we are meant to live a life of self-denial, self-restraint, and self-control so that God's plan for our life is realized."

This really hit home for me. Lately, I've just been in this funk (that time of the month!), where I'm just wandering around, trying to find satisfaction in something. I get a cup of coffee, I grab a handful of chocolate chips, I make a cup of hot tea, I eat a piece of bread, I lay on the couch even though I know I should be taking care of my children and read a few pages of a good book, I put off doing the laundry and planning the meals until the last minute and then I'm running around like a decapitated chicken.

All of my little whims and desires aren't meant to be realized! I'm meant to be living for His glory, not my own comfort! This is a good reminder.

You might find the following blogs of interest about C.J. Mahaney and the group he leads, Sovereign Grace Ministries:

They tell another side.
Hope this helps.

Good reminder. And, I liked what you said about not being a slave to perfection (different post- on an idol worship series you are listening to). Sounds like stuff I really need to hear b/c I struggle with it too! I have the hardest time balancing wanting to be perfect and living for God, as well as denying myself, but enjoying the good things God has given me.
Yes, I call him Dougle, and we had a great time in Prague. We do LST and have been wanting to get a team because there is so much interest in English here. We have a once a week English using the Bible group at our house each Saturday and have about 10 faithful. Our original few have just been inviting their friends and it is growing. If you guys or you and some friends are interested, we'd love to have you come. We are flexible with times of the year too (not just summer). Let us know! We'd love to have you and your family!!
